Welcome to Telford Court

Telford Court is an Art Deco residential apartment building in Streatham Hill, just south of Brixton. It has 38 flats divided into three blocks, a quiet private garden, a gated car park at the rear, original 1930s lifts and lots of interesting period features.

History

The building was designed and built by architect, Frank Harrington, who designed several buildings in Streatham, including Streatleigh Court, opposite Streatham Hill station. This is how the building is described in the Lambeth Council report on the Streatham High Road & Streatham Hill Conservation Area:

The front of the block is set well back from the road above the shops. The design has a central bay and four side bays. Above the shops are balconies with French widows and of particular note are the four attractive pantiled roof top belvederes. The windows of this building are neo-Georgian in style, with eight over twelve timber sashes. The brick facade has a white rendered band below the parapet and at 2nd floor level the window surrounds have pronounced keystones. The plans for this scheme were submitted for approval in 1930 and by 1933 the flats were ready for occupation.
